Perfect Retreat in Pune, designed by Asummi R Design is a refined urban sanctuary, where luxury is expressed through restraint, warmth is balanced with openness, and contemporary sophistication is anchored in timeless detailing.
Conceived as an urban sanctuary that transcends the conventional notion of a city home, Perfect Retreat in Pune, designed by Asummi Rawat, Principal Architect/Designer, Asummi R Design, unfolds as a spatial narrative rooted in movement, interaction, and ease. Designed as a “getaway within the city,” the residence reinterprets luxury not as an ornamental excess, but as an experience of comfort, fluidity, and emotional resonance. Spread across 4,000 sq. ft. the design negotiates the duality of scale and intimacy through a carefully orchestrated duplex layout, where each level is choreographed to balance collective engagement with moments of quiet retreat.

At the heart of the home lies a dramatic double-height living volume: an architectural gesture that anchors the entire spatial composition. This central void is not merely a visual spectacle but a connective spine that binds the home vertically and socially. The sculptural oak staircase rises within this volume as both a functional element and a crafted installation, lending warmth and continuity while guiding movement across levels. Layered seating configurations activate the space, allowing it to transform effortlessly from an intimate family lounge to a dynamic social hub.

The spatial journey begins with a bold threshold: an entrance defined by black marble flooring and striking monochromatic contrasts, setting a tone of understated opulence. This sense of drama softens as one transitions into the dining and kitchen areas, where materiality becomes warmer and more tactile. The dining space, anchored by a ten-seater arrangement and complemented by a suspended swing, introduces a playful, almost nostalgic layer to the otherwise refined palette. It is in these subtle juxtapositions that the home finds its character, balancing sophistication with lived-in comfort.

The kitchen emerges as a vibrant, social nucleus, articulated through a palette of green and wood. Wooden flooring tiles ground the space, while green dado tiles introduce freshness and visual rhythm. The central island acts as both a functional workstation and an informal gathering point, reinforcing the idea of the home as an interactive environment rather than a static composition.

Blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior, the living space extends into a balcony with a private pool, an intervention that elevates the experience of urban living. This seamless integration fosters a sense of openness, drawing in light, air, and a subtle connection to Pune’s temperate climate. The home begins to oscillate between the sensibilities of a permanent residence and a weekend retreat, embodying a lifestyle that is both grounded and escapist.

Private spaces are conceived with equal nuance. The parents’ suite is enveloped in calm sophistication, articulated through detailed wall panelling and a restrained material palette. The upper level unfolds into a series of bedrooms, each defined by its own tonal identity, ranging from cool blue-grey compositions to warmer grey and tan pairings. The master suite, in particular, is enriched with bespoke detailing and a pronounced headboard feature, lending it a sense of quiet grandeur.

What distinguishes the home is its layered functionality. A multipurpose room introduces an element of adaptability: transforming from a casual lounge to a play area or sleepover zone, especially for younger occupants. This flexibility is echoed throughout the residence, where spaces are not rigidly defined but evolve with use, reflecting contemporary patterns of living.
Materiality plays a pivotal role in reinforcing the design language. A controlled palette of neutrals is punctuated by bold accents of black, green, blue-grey, and tan creating a dynamic yet cohesive visual rhythm. The interplay of finishes, from the polished drama of marble to the tactile warmth of oak and the subtle variation of matte surfaces, introduces depth and tactility. This layered material expression ensures that the home remains visually engaging while retaining a sense of harmony.

Perfect Retreat succeeds in crafting an environment that feels expansive yet intimate, luxurious yet approachable. It is a home designed not just to be seen, but to be experienced, where every corner invites interaction, and every transition is imbued with a sense of ease.
