Mumbai-based curatorial studio Alaya Artistry, founded in January 2026 by Daizy Lal Puri and Jasmer Puri, is bringing together rare, nature-led art, crafted objects and collectibles that explore the relationship between nature, materiality and human interpretation.
The studio was inspired by the founders’ discovery of Lotus Leaf Art, an intricate art form that transforms preserved lotus leaves into contemplative works retaining the character and memory of their natural origins. Recognising the limited availability of this medium in India and the subcontinent, Alaya Artistry was created to introduce such distinctive, nature-rooted practices to a wider audience.
Central to the studio’s curatorial philosophy is the belief that every piece has a story before it has a place. Its collection spans materials including lotus leaves, petrified wood, earth, ash, minerals and fire, bringing together works that reflect natural processes, craftsmanship and a considered approach to materiality.
The current showcase features Catherine Khoohathong of Himapan Studio, whose lotus leaf works explore spirituality and transformation; Namrata Baruah of A Ware Studio, known for ceramics shaped by earth, ash, minerals and fire; and Bharati Pitre of Olee Maatee, whose sculptural ceramics explore texture and material expression. The collection also includes a Petrified Wood Collection, offering a glimpse into millions of years of geological transformation.
With its focus on nature, craft and storytelling, Alaya Artistry presents a thoughtful perspective on collecting, encouraging a deeper connection between art, material and contemporary spaces.
