de Gournay Porcelain Debuts in India at Thomas Goode, New Delhi

For the first time, de Gournay brings its hand-painted porcelain to India, establishing its first dedicated point of sale in the country at Thomas Goode, The Oberoi, New Delhi. The collection will be available exclusively at Thomas Goode in New Delhi, offering Indian clients access to de Gournay’s porcelain collections and bespoke commissioning services.

The partnership brings together two houses with a shared appreciation for decorative arts, exceptional craftsmanship and objects created with time, precision and skill. Established in London in 1827, Thomas Goode has shaped some of the world’s most distinguished tables through its expertise in fine porcelain, crystal, silverware and bespoke tableware. Its longstanding association with the art of entertaining makes it a natural partner for introducing de Gournay porcelain to India.

At Thomas Goode, the collection will be presented as part of a complete table setting, bringing de Gournay’s hand-painted porcelain together with crystal, silverware and rare decorative objects. Clients will be able to order complete dinner services and commission bespoke designs, with personalisation options including colours, motifs, gilding and monograms. Individual tableware consultations will enable each service to be tailored to a home, family or occasion.

This personalised approach continues a tradition rooted in the Thomas Goode bespoke design studio, established in 1848 when William James Goode created the company’s first volumes of crest and monogram designs. Nearly two centuries later, bespoke tableware remains central to the house’s identity.

“Thomas Goode has always approached the table as a personal expression of hospitality, identity and how one chooses to welcome others. Bringing de Gournay porcelain to India for the first time allows us to offer collectors something both exquisitely made and genuinely individual. Through our consultation and bespoke services, clients can build a complete table or commission a service bearing their own colours, motifs and monogram, continuing a tradition that has defined Thomas Goode for nearly two centuries.”

Painted by Hand in Jingdezhen

At the heart of de Gournay’s porcelain is Jingdezhen, the Chinese city synonymous with porcelain production for more than a thousand years. Known as China’s Porcelain Capital, Jingdezhen became the centre of imperial porcelain production, with generations of specialised craftspeople refining the techniques of forming, glazing, firing and painting porcelain.

de Gournay continues this tradition through creations made and painted entirely by hand. Subtle variations in each piece reflect the individual touch of the artist, underscoring the craftsmanship and distinctive character of the collection.

“Thomas Goode feels like a natural home for de Gournay porcelain in New Delhi. Our two houses share a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, heritage and exceptional design, and we are delighted to introduce our hand-painted porcelain within a setting so renowned for fine tableware and beautiful entertaining.”

A Festive Table Inspired by Art and Nature

To mark the launch, de Gournay and Thomas Goode will create an immersive festive table at the Thomas Goode store in New Delhi. At the centre of the setting will be a bespoke tablecloth hand-painted by de Gournay’s studio in its Aviary design. Birds, branches and foliage will extend across the textile, creating a painted landscape beneath de Gournay’s Flora & Fauna dinner service.

Inspired by the nineteenth-century ornithological works of John Gould and John James Audubon, the collection features individual studies of birds, butterflies and flowers. Rather than repeating a single composition, the designs vary across the service, giving each place setting its own character.

Thomas Goode will complete the arrangement with its Daisy Line crystal glassware, distinguished by a linear motif that captures and refracts light and finished with 24-karat gold detailing. The setting will also feature Thomas Goode silverware and a pair of limited-edition palm-tree candlesticks set with rubies and gilded in 24-karat gold.

Floral arrangements in a rich, celebratory seasonal palette will echo the birds, branches and botanical forms painted across the porcelain and tablecloth. Porcelain, textiles, crystal, silverware, jewellery-like detailing and flowers will come together as a cohesive decorative composition, reflecting the partnership between de Gournay’s hand-painted artistry and Thomas Goode’s heritage in the art of the table.

Experiencing the Art of Porcelain Painting

The launch will also offer a closer look at the craftsmanship behind de Gournay’s creations. A de Gournay artist will demonstrate porcelain-painting techniques live at the Thomas Goode store, giving guests an insight into the patience, control and precision involved in the process.

Guests will also be invited to try painting on porcelain themselves, offering an opportunity to experience the delicacy and skill required to work by hand on the material. Beyond showcasing the finished pieces, the presentation will highlight the people and processes behind the collection and the relationship between craftsmanship and the rituals of the table.

Bespoke Commissions and Festive Gifting

Alongside complete dinner services, the New Delhi presentation will include a curated selection of de Gournay decorative and gifting creations available for immediate purchase. The range will encompass sculptural porcelain objects, hand-painted Chinoiserie vases, tea sets and smaller pieces such as trinket trays, offering options for festive gifting and collecting.

Clients across India will also be able to work with the Thomas Goode team to commission personalised dinner services and individual creations from de Gournay. Through private tableware consultations, they can develop complete table settings by combining bespoke porcelain with complementary crystal, silverware and decorative objects.

With its first dedicated point of sale in India, de Gournay brings its hand-painted porcelain and bespoke design service to a new audience, while the partnership extends Thomas Goode’s longstanding commitment to exceptional tableware, personalisation and the art of entertaining.
