Designed by We Design Studio, the Lakeview Residence in Powai, Mumbai showcases how clever design can turn architectural challenges into aesthetic triumphs.
As Le Corbusier once said, “The home should be the treasure chest of living.” The Lakeview Residence in Mumbai embodies that thought adorned with the freshness of a neutral colour with vibrant accents introduced through art and accessories. Nestled in the serene heart of Powai, Mumbai, with a stunning panoramic view of the picturesque Powai Lake, Lakeview residence embodies a harmonious blend of timeless charm and modern sophistication. Designed by Nupur Shah, Saahil Parikh and Saahil Chhaya, Principal Architects/Designers, at We Design Studio, this 4BHK home, spreads across an area of 2,000 sq. ft. Their creative decisions assume the spotlight inside a home they designed together.
Explaining the brief shared by the client, Nupur says, “The client bought a bare-shell apartment in a newly constructed building and gave the architects complete creative freedom to design their home. This openness and trust allowed our team to explore and experiment with materials, eventually resulting in a unique home that is aesthetically pleasing as well as efficiently functional.”
To create a spacious and airy ambiance, the design team chose a neutral colour palette, with light grey finishes for the floors and walls. To offset this, charcoal black veneer adorns all doors and furniture, also adding depth to the overall interior of the home. “Additionally, gold fluted glass doors were used to separate private areas from public spaces, lending the place a touch of sophistication and serving as a focal point of the design”, informs Saahil Parikh.
The design concept of the house is heavily influenced by the location of the apartment. The neutral palette of greys and blacks serves as the perfect backdrop for vibrant accents incorporated through art, accessories, and area rugs. Carefully curated wallpapers on highlight walls add texture to the place while also lending it a visual appeal. The design scheme ensures that each element complements the other, creating a cohesive and harmonious living environment.
On entering the home, one is greeted by a large living and dining area designed to maximize natural light and enhance the open-layout plan. “A set of gold fluted glass doors lead to a passage that connects to the four private bedrooms, ensuring a seamless flow throughout the home. The choice of gold fluted glass doors serves a dual purpose – adding a luxurious touch as well as a practical solution to delineate different areas of the house.
One of the unique elements of this design also include the meticulously planned layout that optimizes space to accommodate walk-in closets for the master bedrooms. This focus on smart spatial planning is particularly important in a city like Mumbai, where making the most of all spaces is a constant challenge. The architects addressed this by planning down to the last detail before beginning the refurbishment, ensuring that every inch of space was utilized effectively.
