Designed by Saloni Gupta, this lawyer’s office named Project Orbit merges modern design with practical functionality that results in a professional, inviting space.

In the professional world, the design of a lawyer’s office is more than just about aesthetics—it’s a reflection of the values, trust, and integrity that a firm embodies. Studio Moon has designed an office named Project Orbit that reimagines the traditional lawyer’s office by combining modern design with strategic functionality. The result is a space that fosters collaboration, maintains privacy, and elevates the client experience, all while balancing professionalism with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Explaining the design process Saloni Gupta, Principal Designer, Studio Moon, says, “The primary objective behind Project Orbit was clear: create an office environment that fosters both teamwork and individual focus. The vision was to design a space that encourages collaboration among team members, while also offering the necessary privacy for confidential client consultations. The challenge was to craft a layout that seamlessly blended both the functional and emotional aspects of the workplace, reflecting the core values of the law firm—trust, integrity, and transparency.”

The layout was meticulously planned to balance open, collaborative spaces with areas for private work, ensuring that each zone serves its function without compromising on comfort or accessibility.

One of the biggest challenges for the team was the office’s location in the basement with no natural light. The design team had to combat the inherent limitations of this space by incorporating creative lighting solutions and spatial features that would make the office feel open and inviting. The design team approached the problem head-on, using artificial lighting strategically to create a sense of openness and to fight the feeling of confinement often associated with windowless spaces.

Instead of traditional, harsh fluorescent lighting, the design incorporates softer, warm lighting that mimics natural light and brings an organic feel to the space. Suspended lights made from teak wood not only illuminate the office but also add a touch of warmth, ensuring that the space feels cosy and welcoming despite its lack of natural sunlight.

The space is divided into distinct zones to maximize both functionality and flow. Common areas, such as the meeting rooms, waiting areas, and service spaces, are placed along one side of the office, while private chambers and individual workstations are tucked away on the other. This layout ensures that the office maintains an open and welcoming atmosphere, while also providing the necessary privacy for confidential work.

The balance between public and private areas was essential, as it allows for seamless movement throughout the space without compromising on privacy or functionality. The clever division of spaces ensures that employees and clients alike can navigate the office with ease and comfort.

One of the most striking features of Project Orbit is the use of arc-shaped cutouts throughout the space. These curved elements punctuate the office, creating a dynamic flow between rooms while maintaining the privacy of each area. The arcs add a layer of sophistication to the design, creating visually interesting transitions between spaces without feeling intrusive. These architectural elements also encourage movement, guiding visitors and employees through the office in a natural, organic way.

Another unique feature is the use of teak wood in various forms. From the flooring to the furniture and the hanging lights, teak wood grounds the space with its rich color and texture. The suspended teak lights above workstations not only provide ambient light but also reinforce the warm, natural aesthetic that permeates the office. This thoughtful incorporation of wood creates a space that feels grounded and welcoming, while also exuding professionalism and elegance.

A unique requirement from the client was the need for a nursery for their baby, which presented an interesting challenge given the limited space available. The design team had to find a way to incorporate the nursery without disrupting the flow of the office and while maintaining the professional atmosphere of the workplace. The solution was brilliant: unique cutouts in the walls that allowed light to flow through, creating a sense of separation while still keeping the spaces connected.

By placing the nursery out of direct view from the entrance and using these cutouts, the design ensures both privacy and an open, fluid connection between spaces. This clever integration of personal and professional spaces highlights the firm’s commitment to flexibility and understanding of their clients’ needs.

At the heart of Project Orbit’s design is a commitment to using natural materials that are both aesthetically pleasing and durable.

The reception area is both functional and welcoming, designed to make a lasting impression. A striking wicker panel features the firm’s brand identity, while arc-shaped cutouts create a visual focal point that draws the eye. This design element is seamlessly carried through into the furniture, ensuring a cohesive, organic feel throughout the space. Additionally, the reception area doubles as a lounge, providing clients with a comfortable place to wait.

The workstations prioritize functionality, with magnetic glass panels for notes, ample file storage, and thoughtful organization to ensure everything is easily accessible. A storage box housing plants adds a touch of greenery, breathing life into the space and enhancing the natural aesthetic that defines the office.

The private cabins are crafted for both function and comfort, incorporating fluted light walnut veneer units with elegant brass details. These stylish storage units help keep the space organized while adding a sophisticated touch. Brass-finished skirting and handles further elevate the design, bringing an added layer of refinement to the overall aesthetic.

This project sets a new standard for law office design, offering an environment that fosters collaboration, promotes privacy, and instills confidence in clients and employees alike.
