Professor Abhay Purohit elected as President, Council of Architecture for the term 2023-25 and Ar. Gajanand Ram elected as Vice-President-reg

The Council of Architecture, an Apex Body in the field of architecture established under the Architects Act 1972, has been mandated to regulate education and the architectural profession.

The Council of Architecture, an Apex Body in the field of architecture established under the Architects Act 1972, has been mandated to regulate education and the architectural profession. The elections of President and Vice President was conducted by Ministry of Education, Government of India on 03rd April, 2023. The Council consists of the representatives from all the States and Union Territories, elected Members of the Heads of Institutions and Indian Institute of Architects, Institute of Engineers, CPWD, MES along with AICTE Members.

In these elections, Prof. Abhay Purohit, Principal and Director on Ideas Institute of Design Education and Architecture Studies, Nagpur and an elected representative from among Heads of the Architectural Institutions won the election for President and Ar. Gajanand Ram, State Representative from the State of Jharkhand was elected as Vice President for the term 2023-26.

Prof. Abhay Purohit has vast experience of over 25 years with Council of Architecture and has worked on many Committees related to education and professional reforms. A sitting Member of Council for the last 6 years, healso serves as the Chairman, Board of Studies, RTN Nagpur University and has vast experience in the field teaching. He intends to bring reforms in architecture education with an underlying aim to make it internationally competent. He is also keen on working towards empowering Indian Architects to export services globally.
