Nearly three decades after entering India, Haworth is expanding its manufacturing footprint with a second production facility in Sriperumbudur, Chennai. The new plant, currently under construction adjacent to its existing facility, will significantly increase manufacturing capacity, support exports across the Asia-Pacific region, and further strengthen India’s role as a strategic global production hub for the workplace furniture leader.
Haworth entered India in 1997 as the first major international workplace furniture manufacturer to establish operations in the country. Manufacturing began in Pune in 2005, followed by workstation production near Chennai in 2011, before operations were consolidated into the company’s integrated Sriperumbudur plant in 2014. Today, the 21,000 sq. m. facility brings together metal fabrication, plastic moulding, upholstery, and workstation manufacturing under one roof, supported by more than 180 engineers, technicians, and craftspeople.

Once completed, the new manufacturing facility will substantially expand Haworth’s production capabilities, reducing reliance on imports while improving delivery timelines for customers across India and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The investment reinforces Haworth’s long-term commitment to manufacturing in India for both domestic and international markets.
Manufactured in India to the same global standards as Haworth facilities worldwide, the company’s seating, tables, and workstations are used across some of India’s most demanding workplace environments, including Synopsys’ Bengaluru campus and a leading global insurance company’s Global Capability Centre in Thiruvananthapuram.

Quality and sustainability remain central to Haworth’s manufacturing philosophy. Products are validated through an in-house pre-BIFMA testing laboratory, while the Chennai plant operates on 100% renewable energy through on-site solar generation and Energy Attribute Certificates. The facility also follows a zero-waste-to-landfill approach. Haworth’s India-made products are certified under BIS IS 17631:2022 and IS 17633:2022, while over 70% of its global product portfolio holds BIFMA Level 3 certification and 83% carries third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations.
Beyond manufacturing, Haworth continues to invest in the communities around its operations through its partnership with Sevalya, supporting education, healthcare, clean water access, renewable energy, and rural development initiatives across Tamil Nadu.
