Carefully crafted by Aston Design, Royal China creates a seamless dining journey in Bengaluru, through its thoughtful design.
Bengaluru’s dining culture has been steadily shifting from places that serve food to ones that curate experiences. The Bengaluru outpost of Royal China designed by Aston Design, led by Ganesh Madasamy, play’s directly into this shift. Aston Design is recognized for its ability to translate a brand’s philosophy into immersive spatial experiences, blending contemporary aesthetics with cultural nuance. With a strong portfolio across premium restaurants, luxury residences, and commercial spaces, the firm approaches design as a layered narrative where materiality, light, and form work together seamlessly. At Royal China Bengaluru, Aston Design has delivered an interior that is understated yet evocative, allowing the brand’s legacy and culinary excellence to remain at the forefront.

Sharing the design inspiration for Royal China, Ganesh says, “The design inspiration for Royal China Bengaluru is drawn from the legend of the phoenix, a revered symbol in Chinese culture representing purity, renewal, ascension, and grace. The phoenix narrative subtly unfolds across the space, influencing architectural elements, textures, and forms without being overt or theatrical. This inspiration mirrors Royal China’s own journey—rising with quiet confidence, rooted in tradition while continuously evolving over the past two decades.”

The core design concept centers on creating a space that reflects refinement, authenticity, and timeless elegance, much like Royal China’s culinary philosophy. The restaurant is envisioned as a calm yet confident environment where nothing feels excessive or performative. Every design choice is intentional, supporting the experience rather than overpowering it. The open layouts encourage ease, while the layered textures and sculptural elements bring depth and warmth, setting the stage for a dining experience that feels assured and unhurried. Ganesh further shares, “The overarching theme is modern Chinese elegance interpreted through a contemporary lens. While inspired by traditional symbolism and natural elements, the execution is clean, restrained, and distinctly modern. The theme avoids clichés, instead focusing on balance—between heritage and modernity, drama and calm, structure and fluidity—creating a space that feels globally relevant yet deeply rooted in Chinese cultural narratives.”

Spread across approximate 6000 sq. ft. a generous layout with seating approximately 160 guests, Royal China Bengaluru offers a thoughtfully planned dining experience. The main dining area is expansive yet intimate, allowing for comfortable spacing and uninterrupted conversations. Private dining rooms feature soaring walls that carry the phoenix story, making them ideal for celebrations and business gatherings. Intimate booths offer a sense of seclusion for smaller groups, while the semi-al fresco section brings a softer, relaxed dimension to the experience, connecting the interiors with the surrounding urban fabric. Each area flows seamlessly into the next, maintaining visual continuity while offering distinct dining moods.
Lighting plays a crucial narrative role at Royal China Bengaluru. Customdesigned bamboo shoot-inspired chandeliers glow gently above each table, casting a warm, ambient light that evolves as the day transitions into evening. As dusk settles, the lighting deepens, creating a more intimate and immersive atmosphere. “The colour palette is restrained yet confident—deep blues add depth, gold accents introduce subtle polish, and amber tones soften the overall space, making it equally suited for long lunches, celebratory dinners, and lingering conversations,” informs Ganesh. The material palette is guided by nature and texture. Organic finishes, layered surfaces, and tactile elements bring warmth and balance to the space. Fluid ceiling details are inspired by mountain springs, introducing movement and softness overhead. Natural textures are paired with refined metallic accents, ensuring the interiors feel luxurious without being ostentatious. The careful selection of materials reinforces the brand’s ethos of quiet sophistication and enduring elegance.

The space is celebrated for its authentic Cantonese cuisine, a legacy it has upheld for over 20 years in India. The menu showcases expertly crafted dim sum, handcrafted noodles, and iconic signature dishes that highlight the finesse of Cantonese cooking. Staying true to tradition while maintaining consistency and quality, the culinary offerings reflect the same attention to detail and refinement that defines the restaurant’s interiors.
Royal China Bengaluru is not designed to impress at first glance alone—it is a space that reveals itself gradually. With its considered interiors, thoughtful lighting, and calm confidence, the restaurant creates an environment where the focus naturally returns to the food, the conversations, and the shared experience. It is a seamless extension of Royal China’s legacy, offering Bengaluru a dining destination that feels both timeless and unmistakably contemporary.
