The Zen Home amalgamates traditional elegance with modern sensibilities

The Zen Home designed by Design House Company blends traditional elegance with modern sensibilities.

The owners of the ‘Zen Home’ sought a space that felt both grounded and vibrant—a place that would harmonize their love for nature with their deep spiritual values. This is when Design House Company was roped in to see their vision come to life. The Design House Company is a boutique Interior Design Studio founded by Mansi Sethna Pandey in 2010. At their core, they believe in crafting spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. Each project is thoughtfully designed to reflect the unique personality, lifestyle, and story of its owner—spaces that resonate and feel deeply personal. They embrace every design challenge as an opportunity to explore innovative ideas and create transformative experiences. For them, it’s this journey of discovery, creativity, and collaboration that makes what they do so rewarding

Zen House embodies a lifestyle of mindfulness, serenity, and intentional simplicity. It embraces minimalism, where less is more. Spread across 1,100 sq. ft. and tucked away in one of Borivali’s high rises, the home unfolds as an invitation to experience life at a gentler pace. Sharing her design process, Mansi Sethna Pandey xxx (designation) says, “As the name suggests, we started at drawing inspiration from Japanese aesthetics, and followed the principles of simplicity, harmony, and balance. While the home is functional and contemporary, at the same time, it marries mindfulness and modernity, bringing in the grace of timeless touches with a twist.”

Each space feels meticulously choreographed, both spatially and visually, as evidenced by the living room. The warmth envelops you, through the wooden hues in the ceiling, pristine whites complemented with a pop of fresh greens as the whole setting is softly illuminated by sunlight. It is a setting that beckons one to unwind, meditate, or simply savour a quiet moment. Sunlight touching spaces evokes a beautiful, almost ethereal image of light gently spilling into the room for meditation, journaling, or quiet reflection. The dining area is an embodiment of minimalist elegance, where simplicity meets sophistication in every detail. “In this setting, a single red artwork serves as a striking focal point, symbolizing growth, warmth, and vitality like the sun, informs Mansi. Natural elements while designing the house is considered an integral part. The backdrop walls, covered with soft curves in bedroom mimicking ocean waves, is paired with a warm wood ceiling. This creates a serene and cohesive atmosphere that combines soft lines with simple textures, for a calming, modern retreat.

Materiality plays a pivotal role in narrating the Zen home’s story. Wood elegantly forms the framework of the design. Bespoke furniture pieces near the sofa set and dining area bring in a sense of personalisation to the open living and dining. Every element, from the terracotta pots that line the balcony to the vibrant greens of plants, speaks of balance and harmony. “Sunlight is celebrated, filling the rooms of this 3-bedroom apartment with a dreamy glow that minimises the need for artificial lighting”, says, Mansi.

The Zen Home exemplifies modern design, blending simplicity with elegance in every space. The careful selection of materials and thoughtful layout create a home that feels both open and tranquil. “It invites its inhabitants to experience a lifestyle rooted in intentional simplicity and spiritual calm”, concludes Mansi.
