Ajay Arya x Cocoon Fine Rugs Debut “The Bengal Narrative” Collection

Ajay Arya x Cocoon Fine Rugs proudly present The Bengal Narrative, a stunning collection of handcrafted rugs that honor the architectural and cultural heritage of Bengal. Designed by renowned architect and designer Ajay Arya in collaboration with Cocoon Fine Rugs, this collection is inspired by the timeless beauty of Calcutta’s historic structures, capturing the essence of the city’s past while merging tradition with contemporary design.

Each rug in The Bengal Narrative tells the story of Bengal’s rich history. Drawing inspiration from the opulent Zamindari mansions, colonial-era Victorian influences, and the artistic grace of Rajbari stained glass windows, the collection reinterprets the early flooring patterns of Calcutta. The geometric masterpieces within the collection feature optical illusions inspired by the golden ratio, symbolizing the structured yet fluid nature of the city itself.

The collection comprises distinct design narratives, each deeply rooted in Bengal’s cultural fabric. The Calcutta Heritage Style rug, crafted in a 6’x6′ square format, echoes the grandeur of the city’s mansions and colonial-era flooring patterns. The Shantiniketan Style rugs celebrate Bengal’s artistic spirit, fusing indigenous craftsmanship with vibrant hues for timeless handwoven pieces. Meanwhile, the Jamdani Style rugs honor Bengal’s renowned weaving tradition, with intricate arabesques, floral medallions, and geometric tessellations that radiate sophistication and depth.

Every rug in The Bengal Narrative is meticulously handcrafted by artisans dedicated to preserving Bengal’s artistic legacy. With this collection, Ajay Arya x Cocoon Fine Rugs do more than design floor coverings—they revive a cultural narrative, intertwining Calcutta’s history with modern craftsmanship.
