Transforming Broken Tiles into Sustainable Art: SOMANY Ceramics and IIID Hyderabad Collaborate at “Sthapatya Utsav”

SOMANY Ceramics Ltd., a prominent name in the ceramic industry, joined hands with the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), Hyderabad, for a groundbreaking project titled “Transforming Broken Tiles into Trendsetting Style.” This initiative took center stage at the “Sthapatya Utsav” festival held from June 20th to 23rd, 2024. Hosted by IIID HRC, a dynamic chapter of India’s national interior design body, the project aimed to educate aspiring designers on sustainable construction practices and waste reduction.

A highlight of the event was a mural design competition where over 50 interior design and architecture students showcased their talent. They transformed discarded tiles into stunning artworks, demonstrating creativity and technical prowess under the guidance of industry experts. This three-day competition not only enriched their practical skills but also fostered a deeper understanding of sustainable design beyond academic boundaries.

“Sthapatya Utsav” featured diverse workshops attracting 200-250 participants from 15-20 architecture and design colleges across Telangana. The event provided a vibrant platform for students, architects, and designers to exchange ideas and explore innovative design solutions.
