Warli’s Rugs Bring Sophistication to Patricia Urquiola’s project Il Sereno Hotel Project on Lake Como

Patricia Urquiola’s project at Il Sereno Hotel on Lake Como seamlessly integrates the art of weaving, translated by Warli into hand-knotted rugs that exude sophistication and understated charm.

Recognized for its excellence in luxury hospitality, this architectural and interior endeavor captivates with its aesthetic choices and meticulous execution, ensuring unforgettable holiday experiences. Partnering with Warli, renowned for its ability to embody local materials and artistic traditions, including the silk-weaving heritage of the region, adds a unique dimension to the hotel’s ambiance.

The recent expansion of Il Sereno Hotel, which includes a new penthouse suite concept, has garnered global acclaim, underscoring its reputation as a recipient of the prestigious World’s Best Award by Travel + Leisure.

In this expansion, Warli’s rugs play a pivotal role. Specifically, the Barbès and Dots collections designed by Paolo Zani adorn the bedrooms. Barbès rugs feature bamboo and recycled saree silk hand-knotted using the Persian technique, blending vibrant colors from Indian women’s silk sarees. Meanwhile, Dots rugs, crafted from wool and tencel, offer a soft, textured surface with multicolored stippling achieved through specialized dyeing and twisting techniques.

For the living room, custom rugs were tailored to meet the project’s unique demands, such as a “handloom” rug made from New Zealand undyed handspun wool and viscose, showcasing Warli’s commitment to bespoke craftsmanship.

This collaboration not only enhances the hotel’s interior with its subtle elegance but also celebrates the heritage of Italian style and craftsmanship, ensuring a harmonious interface with the serene beauty of Lake Como.
