Designed by Ar. Punit Sethi, IAD Studio, the Mansukh Residence in Gurugram is a contemporary bungalow that prioritises climate sensitivity, spatial comfort, and family-centric living.

For Ar. Punit Sethi, Founder Architect, Planner & Valuer, IAD Studio in Gurugram, every residential project transcends mere construction. It is an opportunity to shape spaces that resonate with human experience—balancing comfort and livability with functionality, aesthetic identity, human-centric planning, and a sense of timeless design. He was recently awarded the Society Interiors & Design Delhi Honours 2025 in Outstanding Contribution in Architecture and Residential Interior Design. One of the projects designed by Ar. Punit Sethi is the Mansukh, a family residence for the Dubeys, nestled within the evolving urban fabric of Gurugram, which emerges as a serene retreat. Conceived as a contemporary bungalow, the home celebrates natural light, landscaped views, and the intimacy of family living. Guided by a strong design concept, Ar. Punit Sethi integrates function and performance with material honesty, while the spatial layout thoughtfully addresses the needs of multi-generational living. Rooted in climate responsiveness and contextual sensitivity, the residence achieves a harmonious dialogue between contemporary sensibilities and enduring comfort.

The bungalow’s low, horizontal form rests lightly on an east-facing site, embracing the openness of its surroundings while maintaining a quiet sense of privacy. Wide overhangs, shaded verandahs, and deep-set openings protect the interiors from the harsh sun, creating a gentle rhythm of light and shadow across the façade. Each architectural element, from the rooflines to the plain and textured sandstone cladding,g contributes to a language of warmth, balance, and restraint.

At the heart of the residence lies a layout that takes advantage of the expanse of a 512 sqm. plot, to create a home which invites daylight and breezes deep into the plan, while offering a tranquil focus for family togetherness and quiet reflection. The public spaces are provided with articulate formality from the entrance to the living and dining areas, and their linkage with formal outdoor spaces and informal private spaces. Private zones are arranged with thoughtful separation, ensuring both openness and seclusion where needed.

Materiality reinforces the home’s earthy elegance: natural sandstone has been used to create an earthy look, creating a palette that feels both modern and rooted. Subtle craftsmanship in joinery, railings, pergolas, and detailing elevates everyday moments into tactile experiences. Large windows frame views of the landscape, ensuring that every room engages with greenery, open spaces and natural light. Indian white stones and black granites work in tandem to create a monochrome vocabulary for interior flooring, while contemporary straight-line false ceilings provide a distinct aesthetic identity that remains timeless and trendy.

Sustainability is woven seamlessly into the design. Passive cooling has been provided by using an air cavity between external walls and sandstone cladding, and on roofs by providing a terrace garden and an insulated roof. A rooftop solar installation creates additional shade for the roof and also doubles as a recreational space on the terrace. The basement gets natural light and ventilation through a sunken courtyard in the rear open, while cross ventilation, shaded verandas towards the south, internal skylights and rainwater harvesting further support energy efficiency.

In essence, the Residence for the Dubey Family is envisioned as a sanctuary, a place of belonging that grows with its inhabitants. It embodies a quiet sophistication, where architecture, landscape, and light come together in a timeless dialogue celebrating the spirit of home in its most natural form.

Mansukh tells a story of three generations, shaped by journeys, refined by time, and bound by togetherness. It is a home where experiences gathered across continents quietly converge—where memories of distant horizons, cultures, and comforts find lasting expression. Each space reflects a life well travelled, carrying echoes of oceans crossed aboard luxury cruise liners, skies traversed at 35,000 feet, and nights spent beneath the soft glow of igloo tents in the pristine landscapes of New Zealand.

Madhu and Anil bring with them decades of rich travel experience, shaped by cultures, craftsmanship, and thoughtful living. Prerana and Kunal contribute the precision and perspective of aviation, adding an understanding of movement, flow, and design. At the heart of Mansukh are its youngest residents—Advait and Vedant, two tiny toddlers whose laughter, curiosity, and wonder infuse the home with new beginnings and gentle joy.

As soft breezes move through Mansukh, the house gently vibrates with the sound of religious wind chimes, creating an atmosphere of quiet reverence and calm. Together, these generations have given form to Mansukh—not merely as a residence, but as a living narrative where journeys continue, memories deepen, and the future begins anew.
