The KariGhars designs a villa where scale, texture, and intuitive design converge to create a contemporary home that effortlessly balances bold architectural gestures with refined, thoughtful detailing.
In the heart of Bengaluru, Amberline Villa, an 8,000 sq. ft. residence designed by Shalini Mandal, Principal Designer, The KariGhars, emerges as a celebration of scale, texture, and intuitive design. Conceived without the constraints of a rigid brief, the villa reflects the rare freedom to shape a spatial story that is both luxurious and deeply personal. The result is a contemporary home that seamlessly balances bold architectural gestures with refined detailing, creating an immersive design experience rooted in warmth, elegance, and timeless appeal.

Rather than approaching Amberline Villa as a mere collection of rooms, the design team envisioned it as a cohesive architectural narrative — one where light, material, and proportion come together in an orchestrated flow. The design language is firmly grounded in modern contemporary luxury, but executed with a thoughtful restraint that prioritizes comfort and emotional resonance over excess.
From the moment one steps inside, the villa sets a curated tone. The foyer introduces a tactile fusion of materials — marble-clad walls, textured stone, mirrored panels, and soft wallpaper — that come together in a composition of sculptural harmony. Metal inlays shimmer subtly across surfaces, catching light in a way that hints at the understated opulence to follow.
“A central feature of the home is the double-height living area, a dramatic yet welcoming space where natural light becomes an architectural material in itself. Here, sunlight moves fluidly across polished marble flooring and rich wooden wall panels, elevating the volume and lending it a tranquil warmth. The space not only captures the grandeur of scale but also frames views upward and outward, encouraging moments of pause and reflection.” Explains Shalini Mandal, Principal Designer, The KariGhars.
This visual and spatial rhythm continues through the open-plan layout, where living, dining, and kitchen zones unfold with seamless grace. The dining area stands out as a sculptural pause, anchored by a circular staircase adorned with gold-finished railings, reflective mirrors, and stone details, transforming it into a functional work of art.
Across the residence, material transitions are deliberate and restrained. The continuity of marble flooring creates an elegant visual base, softened by the richness of wooden panels and punctuated by sleek metal detailing. In the kitchen, lacquered glass cabinetry mirrors the veining of marble floors, while an island with an extendable breakfast counter adds a layer of functional sophistication, blending seamlessly into daily living rituals.

The puja room is a masterclass in integrating spiritual calm within a contemporary framework. With its onyx stone backdrop, brass highlights, marble-tiled surfaces, and a solid wood door, the room is designed as a sacred sanctuary. Its double-height ceiling further enhances the spiritual ambiance, anchoring it in spatial serenity.
Each bedroom in Amberline Villa is envisioned as a private retreat, offering comfort, individuality, and style. The children’s room cleverly maximizes volume with a mezzanine layout, creating distinct zones for study and rest while encouraging creativity and movement. The top-floor leisure suite encapsulates both indulgence and environmental mindfulness, housing a Jacuzzi, BBQ deck, and solar panels. Despite the luxury, natural materials and earthy finishes ground the design, ensuring it remains warm and welcoming.
At every step, Amberline Villa reflects a sensitive balance between visual drama and compositional restraint. The expansive scale of the home never overwhelms; instead, it’s choreographed to flow effortlessly. Every texture, material, and spatial gesture contributes to a broader rhythm, one that evokes quiet sophistication and emotional depth.

By embracing light, scale, and materiality with intention, Shalini Mandal and her team at The KariGhars have redefined what it means to create a luxurious residence. Amberline Villa is not just a home—it is a design statement that exemplifies how modern architecture can be both grand and intimate, expressive yet timeless.
