Uniquely, Elcid brings together the bold and the serene, mirroring Mumbai’s own blend of energy and tranquillity.
The ideal example of innovation and artistic expression comes from Elcid – a residential project designed by A&K Design Studio. Designed by Aarti Somani & Kruti Sheth, Principal Architectz/Designers at A&K Design Studio, the home is located in the upscale, Malabar Hill, Mumbai and spreads across 2,300 sq. ft. The apartment is designed for an elegant couple who possesses a taste of subtle yet luxurious interior space. It blends warm wooden tones with elegant wallpapers and contrasting marble surfaces harmoniously – lending a sense of class and intrigue to the home through the right choice of material palette. Explaining the client’s requisites, Aarti says, “As the home was conceived bearing in mind the client’s remarkable art collection, each space was created for maximum enhancement and vibrancy to display majestic art. Great care was taken with the placement and background of each piece, which ensures that the colour and texture do not clash but complement the overall aesthetic of the abode. The result is an elegant, art-filled environment that exudes sophistication with underplayed luxury.”
A former four-bedroom apartment has been reworked into a more generous and spacious three-bedroom space; the cosy LCD den and study area merge with the living room to create an amply open, inviting ambiance. The linear form of the living room has been divided into three functional zones, a smart a living area that is flanked on either side by a striking dome-shaped bar and the dining space. “Each room is envisioned to provide a sense of independence yet provide a consistent, comfortable flow in the house. The bar area was tailored to the client’s request of this being an intimate area for entertaining guests. The dome design adds an architectural interest to the space”, informs Kruti. Contrast tones have been matched with a London-themed wallpaper in the master bedroom – giving the room a solid character and a lot of depth. The design has so very carefully integrated bold artistic elements within these soft, luxurious finishes, giving it a comfortable yet chic feel.
Elcid is a celebration of art and design. Every ingredient in the recipe, from the choice of materials to the spaces’ planning in the rooms, has been focused on creating a home that is both visually astonishing and effortlessly liveable. The project shows perfect harmony between modern innovation and timeless elegance, making it an instance of true avant-garde.
