Beyond the Box: Creating Space for Calm, Clarity, and Connection.

One of the intellectual highlights of the evening was the first knowledgesharing session titled “Beyond the Box: Creating Space for Calm, Clarity, and Connection.” Curated as a talk show format, this session shifted the conversation around storage from mere concealment to emotional and psychological well-being. Panel Chair Lipika Sud—interior designer, stylist, art curator, design strategist, trend analyst, Founder of Lipika Sud Interiors Pvt. The session was both insightful and relatable, resonating strongly with architects and designers in the audience. Mementoes were presented to the speakers as a token of appreciation after the discussion concluded.

Artistic Visionary: Empowering Women through Colour and Creativity
Rakhi Poddar, Founder & Artist, Devtaru
Rakhi Poddar, a 47-year-old artist, discovered her passion for colours and creativity early in life. Painting has always been her language—a dialogue between her emotions and the canvas. Her artworks, often centred around women, are known for their vibrant hues and emotional depth, beautifully capturing strength, grace, and the quiet resilience of femininity.

Over the years, Rakhi has received several accolades, including the Savvy Excellence Award (2017) and the Kala Gaurav Award (2018), presented by Rita Bahuguna. In 2019, she participated as a spokesperson at the Women’s Summit alongside noted personalities like Poonam Mahajan and Dia Mirza, and also presented a portrait to actress Nushrratt Bharuccha.
Beyond her own artistic journey, Rakhi is committed to nurturing young talent through her initiative Dev Taru, which aims to make art education more accessible and inspiring. Through her work and vision, she continues to turn art into a medium of empowerment, expression, and emotional connection.

Rakhi Poddar’s relationship with art began long before it was consciously understood—rooted in instinct, emotion, and an early sensitivity to colour. Childhood memories, particularly those surrounding festive traditions like Diwali, became formative moments. The floors of her home turned into living canvases, where hours were spent creating intricate rangolis. These early expressions, met with warmth and encouragement, quietly nurtured a lasting confidence and affirmed colour as her first language of expression.
From an early age, she gravitated towards blank spaces—white paper, empty corners, any surface that invited imagination. Portraiture soon emerged as a natural inclination, especially the nuanced study of women’s faces. She was drawn to expressions that carried silent strength, vulnerability, and layered emotion. Parallel to this fascination was a deep connection with black-andwhite compositions. Charcoal, with its raw intensity and emotional depth, became a powerful medium. A single charcoal pencil, gifted by her maternal uncle, marked a turning point—one that led to a series of expressive female portraits that garnered early appreciation and marked the beginning of a more serious artistic journey.

Experimentation became central to her process. New materials— colour pencils, charcoal sticks, sketching tools—were explored with curiosity and discipline. Through black-and-white sketches, she developed a strong command over tonal values, contrast, and shading, sharpening her ability to translate emotion through form and texture. This constant exploration reflected an inner urge common to artists: to understand materiality, light, shadow, and the silent dialogue between subject and surface.
As her commitment deepened, she actively participated in schoollevel art competitions, experiences that instilled discipline, patience, and observational rigour. These formative years reinforced her belief that art could evolve beyond a passion into a lifelong pursuit. A significant influence during this phase was her mother, whose background in science and precision-driven diagrams revealed a compelling intersection between structure and creativity. Through her, the artist learned that logic and imagination need not exist in opposition.
Formal art training in Delhi became a defining chapter. This period laid a strong foundation, refining her technical skills while expanding her conceptual understanding of art. Observation, interpretation, and personal expression took precedence, transforming art from an activity into a way of life.
Life’s responsibilities eventually introduced a pause. Marriage and personal commitments led to a prolonged distance from active practice. Yet art remained an intrinsic presence, dormant but undiminished. Her return to painting marked not a continuation, but a quiet rebirth. Around this time, her practice of Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism brought renewed clarity and inner strength. This spiritual grounding began to influence her work, infusing it with intention, positivity, and emotional resonance.
Recognition followed steadily. In 2017, she received the Savvy Excellence Award for her contribution to art, followed by the Kala Gaurav Award in 2018, presented by Rita Bahuguna—an affirming milestone. In 2019, she participated as a spokesperson at the Women’s Summit alongside prominent figures such as Poonam Mahajan and Dia Mirza. The same year, she presented a portrait to actress Nushrratt Bharuccha, blending admiration with artistic expression. Most recently, on 12 November 2025, she was honoured with the Society Achiever Award, reaffirming her journey of perseverance and sincerity.
Her practice, however, has not been without struggle. Like many artists, she has encountered moments of rejection, misunderstanding, and self-doubt. Over time, she embraced the understanding that art need not always be explained or universally understood. The discovery of one’s own voice—and the courage to remain true to it—became central to her philosophy.
Today, her work is defined by vibrant acrylics and a strong inclination towards meditative, nature-inspired compositions. Bright colours, warmth, and visual energy characterise her canvases, while an underlying calm anchors the experience. She believes that art has the power to transform spaces—turning homes into sanctuaries filled with balance, positivity, and emotional harmony.

As her journey continues to unfold, she remains equally committed to mentoring young and aspiring artists, encouraging them to pursue their paths with confidence and resilience. Shaped by childhood memories, family influences, faith, pauses, and powerful returns, her artistic practice stands as a reflection of lived experience. Each canvas becomes an honest expression— reminding us that art, much like life, is not about perfection, but about sincerity.
