ReNNovate Interiors has transformed two adjacent apartments into a unified, art-filled retreat for the Sankaranarayans — a sophisticated haven distinguished by its timeless black, white, and wood palette
Spanning 3,000 sq. ft., this expansive home at Monte South — created by merging two adjacent apartments — has been envisioned by Ar. Smita Vijaykumar, Founder, ReNNovate Interiors, for avid art collectors the Sankaranarayans. The result is a refined expression of quiet luxury, where a timeless palette of black, white, and wood forms the perfect backdrop for the family’s treasured art collection, transforming the residence into a sophisticated living gallery.

Stepping inside, a dramatic welcome unfolds. The entrance door, a study in refined contrasts, features a luxurious marble finish juxtaposed with louvered wood panels and an intricate leaf-shaped grill. This leads into a striking black and white checkered foyer, where a grand piano and an audacious “amore red” bar immediately set a tone of convivial sophistication. Above, a magnificent chandelier cascades light onto a rich wooden ceiling panel, amplifying the grandeur of this wide entryway. “A venerable antique Lakshmi idol finds its place in a cleverly integrated archway, artfully bridging the two former separate apartment into a cohesive grand space. The seamless design continues with a discreetly hidden door for the household. louvered panel. The visual journey culminates at a stately marble wall panel, featuring a bold gold elephant ornament – a powerful symbol of the family’s heritage – elegantly flanked by their treasured artworks.” explains Smita Vijaykumar, Founder, ReNNovate Interiors.

The expansive living and dining area is a testament to understated elegance, where subtle handmade sofas rest upon luminous onyx mirror floors, creating a pristine white canvas that allows the art to command attention. Textured lime wash walls add tactile depth, providing dynamic backdrops throughout the combined space. Addressing the practicalities of RCC walls, minimalist yet thoughtful wall paneling frames the artworks and discreetly integrates ample electrical points. A stroke of design brilliance transforms one of the original kitchens into a striking “glass cube,” dramatically expanding the perceived volume of the living and dining areas. Further enhancing the space’s versatility, a drop-down projector screen is seamlessly integrated into the living area for multi-functional entertainment. The commitment to clean lines is evident in the hidden kitchen door within the louvered wall and the cleverly concealed passage doors, revealing a home full of well-planned surprises.

Passageways become design statements in themselves, with their distinctive checkered tile flooring, rafter ceilings, and elegant drop-down lanterns. Ingeniously, unsightly DB boxes and junction boxes are transformed into artistic elements, hidden behind sliding mural art crafted from textured paint and fluted panels. Display was paramount, so the walls showcase a thoughtful interplay of textured white and sleek marble-finished black sections. The serene Mandir area is a luminous sanctuary, featuring a pristine white onyx backdrop that conceals the erstwhile kitchen window, allowing natural sunlight to flood the space behind the onyx, creating a truly blissful environment with its pristine white shelves and intricate carvings.

Each bedroom offers a unique narrative of luxury and comfort. The master suite is a haven of white, featuring a stunning Statuario white marble bed backdrop and a tactile fluted TV panel. The wardrobes boast a sophisticated stucco finish, complemented by exquisite custom-ordered brass handles for all the bespoke furniture. The ultimate indulgence is the travertine bathroom, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Mumbai skyline. The interplay of wood and travertine creates a subtly contrasting and visually rich experience, with all storage seamlessly concealed within matching travertine finishes.

The guest bedroom embodies quiet luxury with its serene white, cane, and Japanese silk theme. Raw wooden handles, Japanesethemed silk wallpaper, and rattan cane finishes create a visual oasis, inviting complete relaxation at the day’s end. The children’s rooms are vibrant havens of blue and white, featuring delightful fabric-textured wardrobes and bed backs, where functionality and aesthetics are perfectly harmonized to create a truly exceptional family home.
