Conceived and executed by Swathy Sivaraman of Storeyboard Design, Renaissance in Bengaluru, stands as a testament to spatial ingenuity and thoughtful design
Renaissance is not merely a home — it is a design resurrection. Conceived as a rebirth of spatial identity, this penthouse in Bengaluru is a masterclass in transformative design, achieved with uncompromised precision within a remarkable 90- day timeline. “What began as a dated shell of tired marble and inefficiencies has emerged as a layered, luminous sanctuary where architecture becomes narrative and functionality fuses seamlessly with luxury”, says Swathy Sivaraman, CEO & Principal Architect, Storeyboard Design.

The renovation of this 3 BHK Penthouse wasn’t skin-deep — it was structural, strategic, and soulful. Ceilings were reimagined to conceal complex rerouted services. Flooring was overlaid on the existing marble with zero tolerance for error. “Walls were repositioned, sightlines reframed, and lighting completely redesigned to orchestrate a new spatial rhythm. This was a home broken down to its bones — and rebuilt with clarity, intention, and edge”, informs Swathy.
From the moment one enters this 3,500 sq. ft. penthouse, the experience is deliberately cinematic. A soaring, four-sided pitched ceiling frames the double-height volume, each plane rendered with subtle distinction, together orchestrating an elevated spatial symphony. But the beam that cuts across this soaring space is not merely structural — it becomes sculpture. Clad in foiled wallpaper and adorned with a custom metal art installation, it sets the tone for what follows: architecture that is expressive, not loud; ornamental, yet resolved.

Suspended within this architectural theatre is a bespoke chandelier that mimics a rain cascade in gold-foiled finesse — an ethereal anchor that animates the vast verticality without overwhelming it. “This curated drama is the overture to a home that celebrates individuality, silence, and spectacle in equal measure”, adds, Swathy.
To the side, a bold cobalt blue artwork injects graphic vitality into the family lounge. Framed against patterned wallpaper and a circular sculptural installation, it offers a jolt of contemporary contrast amidst the otherwise tonal palette — a calculated rupture that underscores the home’s design maturity.

The dining area is the emotional anchor of this double-height core. A tall fabric-panelled wall, angled within sleek metal frames, rises with quiet grandeur behind an exotic blue marble table — its rich veining and tonal depth creating a visual echo with the cobalt art. Sleek grey dining chairs, slit-backed with leather detailing, complete the composition with understated elegance. Here, scale, materiality, and tone collide in curated harmony.
Throughout the living and family zones, a tone-on-tone narrative unfolds. Marble-topped centre tables echo the flooring’s Patagonian white palette, creating cohesion across disparate elements. On one end, a veneered showcase displays crystal artefacts in rich contrast, while the opposite wall hosts a playful bar nook set against custom peacock-motif wallpaper — anchored by an embroidered teal accent chair that speaks softly of heritage, filtered through a modern lens.

And yet, for all its visual richness, Renaissance is also a triumph of spatial performance. The kitchen, formerly a dysfunctional corner, has been transformed into a high-functioning, elegant workspace — with fluted glass shutters, glazed tile dado, and ergonomic fittings engineered to anticipate every culinary need. The powder room is elevated to a tactile sanctuary, wrapped in dark rustic blues and crowned with a freestanding bathtub — a sensory experience hidden in plain sight.
Even spiritual moments are reimagined with restraint. The puja room, nestled seamlessly into the plan, uses tinted brown glass shutters, onyx, and textured paint to articulate sanctity without heaviness. Tradition, here, is whispered — never forced.
The bedrooms are layered yet light. The master suite is a quiet retreat, wrapped in floral wallpapers, leather panelling, and blue fluted accents that orchestrate intimacy without visual fatigue. The children’s room tells a more playful story — fluted suede arches, aviation-themed wallpaper, and a cosy jungle nook compose a narrative of discovery, grounding design in imagination.
“What binds all these spaces is an invisible yet powerful design logic — a sequencing of detail, volume, and material that belies the compressed construction timeline. In 90 days, every surface was rethought, every constraint converted into a design opportunity. AC ducts were rerouted through precision false ceilings. Beams were accentuated rather than hidden. Existing flooring was upgraded through millimetric overlays”, concludes Swathy.

More than just a design intervention, Renaissance is a testimony to what is possible when artistry and discipline are held in perfect balance. It is a home where scale is matched by intimacy, where materials converse across surfaces, and where light, form, and soul are choreographed into a unified whole. A deliberate act of spatial storytelling where light becomes material, structure becomes sculpture, and every detail earns its place. It is a home that performs with the discipline of engineering but speaks with the poetry of design.
