Natasha Kochhar, Associate Partner & Principal Architect at LTDF, shares her perspective: “Design is more than a backdrop; it’s a manifesto of vision and philosophy.” Discover her insights as she delves into the art of creating spaces that inspire and resonate.
How does one design a space for those who shape our visual world? When the clients are designers themselves, the stakes rise exponentially, making each choice—be it material, layout, or lighting—a testament to a shared language of creativity. These individuals are not just consumers, they are creators, innovators, and trendsetters, deeply attuned to the subtleties of design. Now, imagine designing for someone who already sees the world through a lens of lines, shapes, and forms. For them, it’s not about simply filling a room with beautiful objects. It’s about creating environments that mirror their philosophy, spark their creativity, and still function as a canvas for their evolving ideas. Here, every decision is scrutinized through artistry and critique, where the challenges are not just high, they are personal.
LTDF approaches each project as an opportunity to translate the intangible qualities of creativity and identity into spatial experiences that resonate deeply with a designer’s sensibilities. Design is more than a backdrop; it’s a manifesto of vision and philosophy—a physical embodiment of the brand’s identity, where every detail communicates with the space it inhabits. This approach is evident in their standout projects, such as Coast to Coast, Quba Homes, Snaan, Alsorg, Bathline, and Proform which dismantles the rigid structures of conventional retail design, crafting dynamic settings that invite exploration while authentically reflecting the unique narratives of their clients.
A hallmark of LTDF’s innovative design philosophy is the Coast to Coast Veneer Experience Centre, crafted by Co-Founder & Principal Architect Ar. Prashaant Kochhar. The project brief aimed to establish an immediate connection with both the design fraternity and general customers. Drawing inspiration from nature’s calming essence, the design reflects the gentle rhythm of sea breezes and the tranquil ripples of water. “The goal was to create a space that flowed with the senses, allowing visitors to fully engage while meandering through it,” Prashaant notes. This seamless, unobstructed user flow is emphasized by soft, curved edges that enhance intuitive movement throughout the space.
In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the merchandising approach focuses on interactivity and scale. Large, double-sided wall panels allow visitors to explore various finishes of the same veneer by flipping them over, while tabletop display panels facilitate closer examination and tactile exploration Building on this philosophy, LTDF’s collaboration with Quba Homes showcases their ability to blend classical and contemporary design elements. Engaged to reimagine their brand image for India Design ID 2021, LTDF transformed a 1,000 sq. ft. stall into a stunning showcase for Quba’s neoclassical furniture collection. Merging geometric architectural features like domes and arches with modern design sensibilities, LTDF created a visually connected and luxurious setting that invites exploration.
The stall’s design incorporates sensory elements to enhance the guest interaction. From the dual-tone flooring of Patagonia tile and wood to the elegant decor by Highlight, each detail reflects Quba Homes’ ethos of ‘quality that speaks.’ This is further elevated by custom fragrances from OLFA, creating a multisensory journey that aligns perfectly with the brand’s identity. This fusion illustrates how LTDF redefines classical design for modern lifestyles, making traditional art styles accessible and engaging.
Similarly, the Alsorg store in Gurugram captivates through its branded storytelling. Every aspect of the design is meticulously chosen to reflect the brand’s identity, weaving various narratives into a space that engages and immerses visitors. The design effectively communicates the brand’s story and celebrates bespoke furniture, stunning storage pieces and wall panels.
Another notable project, the Bathline store in Okhla, presents a sophisticated solution for showcasing a diverse range of materials without creating visual clutter. Minimalist lines and strategically placed focal points guide customers on an engaging discovery journey. Biophilic elements, including curated real plants, balance the hardscape and foster a calming connection with nature. Beyond traditional displays, the store features experiential spaces and dynamic movement design, encouraging customers to immerse themselves in the selection process. Innovative lighting enhances the overall ambience, making Bathline a premier destination for exploring premium bath materials.
Designing for the design fraternity is a challenge that demands more than technical expertise—it requires a deep understanding of what ignites creativity and a willingness to engage with clients on a personal level. LTDF Architecture + ID doesn’t just create spaces; they craft environments that spark dialogue, inspire exploration, and elevate the creative process. Each project is a testament to their commitment to pushing the boundaries of design, where every space speaks not just to its function but to the artistic soul of its users. By translating vision into physical form, LTDF offers a platform for designers to continue shaping the world around them. In their hands, a space is never just a space—it is a reflection of identity, a canvas for new ideas, and an ever-evolving expression of creativity.
