Designers Group reimagines Lucknow, Holiday Inn by blending sleek contemporary elements with traditional influences

Designers Group reimagines Lucknow, Holiday Inn by blending sleek contemporary elements with traditional influences, offering a refined balance of comfort, functionality, and local character.

In the heart of Lucknow, a city renowned for its timeless culture, history, and architectural grace, stands a striking new addition to its hospitality scene—Holiday Inn Lucknow, a modern sanctuary that redefines contemporary luxury. Conceived and brought to life by the acclaimed Designers Group, led by Principal Architect Khozema Chitalwala and Associate Designer Hemendra J Kanojiya, the hotel is a masterclass in blending global standards of comfort with local nuances of tradition and style.

The overarching design narrative is rooted in a modern contemporary sensibility, yet it’s one that does not lose sight of the city’s cultural essence. The brief given to the design team was clear: create bold and modern public areas that reflect international sensibilities, while keeping the guest rooms minimalistic, warm, and comfortable. The result is a space that exudes understated elegance, delivering both visual impact and experiential comfort.

At the heart of the concept is a subtle layering of cultural storytelling through modern design language. From materiality to spatial planning, every detail has been carefully considered to ensure a seamless interplay of form and function, beauty and utility.

As you enter, the main lobby makes a powerful first impression with its Italian marble flooring, which anchors the space in opulence. This luxurious element is enhanced by a sophisticated reception desk, backed by a stylish feature wall that adds depth and elegance.

A central lounge area immediately sets the tone for comfort and vibrancy. Upholstered in lively, bold hues, the lounge seating brings energy into the space, making it feel welcoming and dynamic. Adjacent to this, a semi-covered bar area becomes a sophisticated focal point. Defined by metal screens that offer both privacy and openness, this space showcases how material innovation can enhance spatial experience. The use of intricately designed partitions creates a layered visual narrative without making the area feel enclosed.

In a hospitality space, flow and interaction are paramount, and this design achieves both with grace. The expansive dining area is crafted for openness and sociability, with a central island buffet counter paired with an open show kitchen that not only elevates the dining experience but encourages interaction between chefs and patrons.

This transparent approach continues into the pre￾function and banquet areas, where attention to finish and form is evident. PU-finished doors offer a luxurious and refined aesthetic, enhancing the overall tone of the space. The transitions between areas are seamless, thanks to thoughtful spatial zoning and circulation planning, allowing guests to move effortlessly from one zone to the next.

In stark yet harmonious contrast to the dramatic public spaces, the guestrooms are grounded in a minimalist design approach. They are quiet, composed, and relaxing—ideal for the contemporary traveller seeking comfort without distraction. Subtle heritage cues are introduced through custom-designed carpets and graphic patterns inspired by Lucknow’s artistic traditions. These elements are integrated in a way that enriches the experience without overpowering the serene neutral palette, making the space universally appealing while still rooted in context.

One of the project’s standout features lies in its strategic layout, where all public areas are located on a single floor. This not only ensures better connectivity but also optimizes operational efficiency. The design celebrates connectivity and flow, making transitions between functions smooth and intuitive for guests and staff alike.

Materiality plays a crucial role in creating the hotel’s distinct character. Antique brass-finished metal, ribbed glass, and vibrant upholstery fabrics create a rich tactile and visual experience. The metal screens continue to serve both decorative and functional purposes—acting as spatial dividers while adding textural intrigue to the overall design.

The Holiday Inn Lucknow is more than just a hotel—it is a design statement that reflects the evolution of hospitality in one of India’s most historically rich cities. Designers Group has succeeded in delivering a space that speaks to the modern-day traveller’s expectations while maintaining a respectful nod to local heritage. The attention to detail, thoughtful layout, and considered choice of materials collectively create an environment that is both luxurious and grounded, contemporary yet contextually resonant.

This project is a shining example of how intelligent, sensitive, and culturally responsive design can elevate a brand’s identity while enhancing the guest experience. It sets a new benchmark for hospitality design in the region—one that celebrates a harmonious blend of style, functionality, and cultural relevance.
