Collektlove Co-founders – Prateek Jain and Gautam Seth have time and again shocked and seduced the design world with their virtuoso extrapolation of handblown glass to create artisanal gifting range of collectibles and souvenirs. From fragrances to tea sets, candle holders, vases, room lights, trinkets and much more – each totem is brought to life by skilled artisans using the rarefied techniques of hand blown glass.
Staying true to its core values of celebrating Indian craftsmanship and embodying the essence of a global nomad, Collektlove unfolds its newest offering which draws beautifully from the timeless and historical South Indian temple architecture, sculptures and figurines. In their quest to explore and rediscover the indigenous civilisational values and spiritual symbolism, mavericks Prateek Jain and Gautam Seth unveil an exclusive line of sculptures, table and floor lamps besides vases, where each collectible narrates a tale of its own. Combining diverse historical references and mythological elements, the dynamic duo explore, refine and redefine the soul-searing details of a traditional Dravidian temple like vimana, stambha, garbhagriha, shikhara and stupa among others.
The holy and historical Rameshwaram temple (located in Tamil Nadu and known for its intricate carvings) and Meenakshi temple (situated in Madurai and known for its gold-plated Vimanam or the tower over the sanctum) were the two key reference points that informed the collection. Always embarking on an exploratory voyage, the duo have visited these holy temples quite often and all these consciousness-altering trips collectively formed vivid snapshots in their creative headspace which nourished the pieces with soul, gravitas and emotions.
Talking about the collection, Prateek Jain shares, “These totems steeped in symbolism and savoir-faire evoke the architecture of the ‘Vimana’ which forms the apex of a South Indian temple. Moreover, each creation catalyses a conversation about the multi-layered and vibrant Indian mythology and is deeply rooted in our traditional values and beliefs while embodying contemporary finesse at the same time.”
Gautam Seth says, “Every aspect of the temple architecture serves as a totemic source and is loaded with deep meaning. Imbued with masterful detailing, each collectible is sublimated with a cosmic energy which spans the intergalactic spheres. Rooted to our Indian historical and mythological references yet very of-the-moment!”
Referencing something from the past, which could even date back to several centuries, and reimagining it with a contemporary flair is nothing new to Collektlove. In the past too, Collektlove prominently featured several key mythological insignias like the Nandi and the Baby Eli, denoting wisdom, austerity, virtues and prosperity in its offerings. However, in the newest collection, the hand-blown glass pieces take on a more ornate silhouette with tactile embellishments, arches and motifs, making each collectible a conversation point.
In terms of materiality, they stay true to ingeniously extrapolating their signature hand-blown glass techniques. “Bringing the main sculpture to life was a challenge and took over three months. We’ve attempted to reimagine something so historical and symbolic into a beacon of modernity and utilitarian chic,” shares Prateek.
All in all, an artistic ode to our ancient culture, each of these totems s dreamed up by Prateek Jain and Gautam Seth, highlighting the uninterrupted intention of the brand to elevate the ordinary. Each of these pieces lends themselves effortlessly to a wide array of settings – from an office to a country home to one’s private space. Usher in positivity and good luck with these chic collectibles and totems which are rooted in heritage yet crafted with an extraordinary modern flair.
