Nyishi Patil Parekh has designed Lyla that offers an immersive experience inspired by the arid landscapes of Central America infused with an Afro-Latin soul.
With an enchanting allure from the onset, Lyla draws inspiration from the arid landscapes of Central America, infused with an Afro-Latin soul, setting the stage for warmth, intimacy, and celebration.
The design journey seamlessly blends cultural influences, vibrant colours, textures, and flavours to channel the spirit of Latin America. Beginning with mood elements featuring graphic Latin design motifs, Nyishi and her team meticulously integrate these inspirations into the palette and decor of the restaurant. The design narrative takes root in the idea of capturing the light, mood, and atmosphere of Central America’s dry regions, inspired by the rhythmic melodies of Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana.” From refined fine dining experiences during the day to vibrant energy-filled nights, the space pulsates with a joyful, sensual rhythm.
The fusion of native Indian, Afro-Latin, and Spanish influences forms the cornerstone of the space’s aesthetic identity, weaving natural materials, rich colour palettes and textures into a 360-degree experience. Vibrant hues adorn the space, complemented by varied art pieces showcasing the cultural blend, creating a sense of home and individuality in each corner.
At the core of Lyla’s architectural narrative lies the imposing solid wood-clad bar, not just a focal point but the vibrant hub of social interaction. This island bar concept transcends mere function, infusing the space with scale, ambiance, and conviviality. Additionally, a covered verandah envisioned by Nyishi and her team seamlessly integrates an outdoor dining experience within the space’s embrace, enriched by desert flora, plush seating, and mood lighting reminiscent of Latin American traditions.
In Mumbai’s bustling metropolis, Lyla emerges as an oasis of inspiration, reflecting a commitment to craftsmanship, storytelling, and cultural immersion in every detail of its design narrative. From conceptual vision to transformative reality, Lyla invites visitors to savor the art of living with each visit.
