In the heart of Delhi NCR’s demanding climate, Woven Metal rises as a striking architectural narrative — a workspace that seamlessly blends industrial grit with contemporary adaptability, resilience and elegance. Designed by Ar. Ashish Batra and Ar. Kavita A Batra, Founders and Principal Architects, Uniifyy, the project exemplifies how architecture can thoughtfully bridge industrial identity with modern workspace requirements. The duo’s sensitive and innovative design approach brings together climate-responsive strategies, adaptive spatial planning, and a distinct material palette to create a future-ready office that powerfully reflects the client’s values, vision and craft.
Conceived for a client deeply rooted in the metal fabrication industry, the building’s architectural identity is as robust and resilient as the precision-engineered products that emerge from within. “At the core of Woven Metal lies a bold and purposeful design vision: to create a highly responsive, flexible and human-centric environment that mirrors the client’s ethos while addressing both environmental challenges and the evolving dynamics of work culture.” explains Ashish Batra.
The defining architectural element — a dynamic metal ventilated façade — is much more than a visual signature. It functions as an intelligent skin, shielding the structure from the region’s extreme climate, enhancing thermal performance, and anchoring the project’s strong sustainability agenda. With its interplay of light, shadow and ventilation, this façade becomes both a poetic homage to the client’s craft and a practical solution deeply attuned to its context.
“Inside, Woven Metal office unfolds as a carefully designed blend of private focus zones and vibrant collaborative hubs — a true reflection of the hybrid working models of today. The L-shaped layout smartly separates the operational wings of the client’s two companies, while a dramatic doubleheight reception at the intersection forms the spatial and social heart of the office. This shared nucleus not only facilitates interaction but also underscores the egalitarian spirit that defines the organization’s culture.” informs Kavita A Batra.
Zoning is executed with precision. Private cabins, open-plan workstations, adaptable meeting rooms, and casual breakout spaces are all arranged within a grid-based planning system that ensures functional clarity and long-term adaptability. This robust framework allows the office to seamlessly evolve with the client’s future requirements, eliminating the need for major structural changes and reinforcing the design’s future-proof character.
Materiality plays a starring role in articulating the building’s identity. The design deliberately embraces a minimalist and industrial aesthetic — with clean lines, ACP cladding, and exposed raw textures that celebrate the authenticity of metalwork. To temper this ruggedness and introduce warmth, biophilic interventions and natural finishes punctuate the interiors, creating zones of calm and connection. Vibrant colour accents — striking reds and blues on the window projections — inject dynamism and brand recall into the otherwise neutral, sophisticated palette.
Natural light was a key driver throughout the design process. The spatial configuration and façade design work in tandem to maximise daylight penetration. Strategic window placement, open corridors, and the ventilated façade all contribute to reducing dependence on artificial lighting, while enhancing occupant comfort, well-being, and productivity. The façade acts as a filter — diffusing harsh sunlight, controlling glare, and optimising thermal comfort without compromising the building’s bright, uplifting ambience.
What perhaps stands out most in this office is its ability to embody a beautiful duality: strength and softness, industry and ecology, permanence and flexibility. The metal façade is a proud emblem of the client’s core identity, while the fluid, adaptable interiors speak to a workplace philosophy that values collaboration, inclusivity, and readiness for the future.
